Love & Relationships Day 7

Scripture: 1 Timothy 4:12 Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.

Devotional: Whether you are young or old, this passage is a great exhortation for all followers of Jesus.  You are called to set an example for others in the areas of what you say, how you act, how you treat others, what you believe, and how you keep yourself from sexually immorality.

Certainly this is a tall order, and it can sometimes be daunting.  But you don’t have to do it alone.  You have the help of God’s Holy Spirit to lead you, guide you, and give you strength.

Will you call upon Him to do so?

  • Who are those in your circle of influence for whom you need to set a good example?
  • Whether you are single or married, if you don’t already have an accountability partner in living a sexually pure life, commit to finding someone in the next two weeks to whom you can be accountable.

Love & Relationships Day 6

Scripture: Psalm 119:9 How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your Word.

Devotional: Earlier this week, we talked about how many people think that sexual purity is archaic and impossible to attain.  But today’s passage shows how you can stay pure:  by living according to God’s Word.

When you begin to center your life around God’s Word, you’re not just giving your physical self boundaries and rules to follow. You become transformed from the inside out.  Romans 12:1-2 says “Therefore, I urge you brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God – this is your true and proper worship.Do not be conformed to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

The pattern of this world is bursting at the seams with sexual immorality.  It’s everywhere.  You can’t even check out at the grocery store without being bombarded by overly sexual images.

But you do have a defense, and that is to immerse yourself daily in God’s Word and allow it to transform you.  Don’t just read His Word, do what it says.  And that includes running from even a hint of sexual immorality.

You’ll never regret it.

  • How much would you say you are engaged in living according to God’s Word?
  • What changes might you make in order to grow in this area?
