Love & Relationships Day 5

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 6:13 But you can’t say that our bodies were made for sexual immorality. They were made for the Lord, and the Lord cares about our bodies.

Devotional: This is an important truth to recognize in the quest for sexual purity.  Your body is not made for sexual immorality.  Many people would say, “If God didn’t mean for me to have sex – lots of sex – I wouldn’t have these desires.”  Nothing could be further from the truth.

Your body is made for God, and every desire you have is there to draw you closer to Him.  Even the sexual ones.  For when you seek to keep those desires within the context of His purpose, it drives you to Him to give you strength to contain those desires until the time comes when they are fulfilled as He intended them to be.  And when that happens, it is the most beautiful thing!

Satan always wants to corrupt what God has made beautiful and holy.  Don’t be deceived and fall for his counterfeit ways.  His temptations always chew people up and spit them out.  And they destroy the one who falls prey to them.

You are made for the Lord and He cares so much about you.

Reflect:

  • What does today’s passage reveal to you about your body and God’s purpose for you?

Love & Relationships Day 4

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 6:18 Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body.

Devotional: Today’s passage clearly sets forth what our attitude should be toward anything sexual that is outside the marriage covenant: RUN!

Because in this sin, you are destroying your own body. So many people today suffer from anxiety, depression, illness caused by sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies that cause abortions or children who are neglected, abused or abandoned.  Add to that divorce, abandonment and abuse that results from sexually immoral behavior in marriages.

Yet there is little to no acknowledgment that these are the result of one’s choice to engage in sexual immorality.  Whether you want to admit it or not, this sin affects you greatly.

So draw the line.  Protect yourself and your body.  Guard your heart as well.  I don’t know any person who regrets keeping themselves sexually pure, whether single or married. The only regrets come from not running from sexual sin.

Reflect:

  • What temptations do you face when it comes to sexual sin? Sex outside of marriage?  Pornography? (which research has shown to destroy brain cells by the way) Lust?

Pray for the strength to want to run away from these things and to find someone to whom you can be accountable in your struggles.
