Angel Car Ministries

SCROLL DOWN

Angel Car Ministries

Angel Car Ministry, otherwise known as Siouxland Wheels to Work, refurbishes and distributes donated autos for the sole purpose of liberating and empowering single parents. Angel Car does so by giving single parents that are lacking accessible transportation the ownership of their own vehicle.

Sunnybrook has partnered with Angel Car Ministry to support them financially, but also to bring awareness of the ministry for those who would like to donate or for those in need.

Food4Thought

Food4Thought

Food 4 Thought strives to provide both supplemental weekend food packs and service opportunities to Sioux City’s youth. The primary goal is to provide middle and high school students with supplemental weekend food pakcs to assist in battling hunger. By assisting in overcoming hunger, students can be better equipped to learn and attain their goals.

The food packs are filled with easy to prepare, nutritious, non-perishable items that will supplement a young person’s weekend meals. These food packs are assembled and distributed by adult and student volunteers to teach service to others and teamwork.

Sunnybrook has partnered with Food 4 Thought through yearly financial support, as well as donating items and assembling packs with the student ministry groups.

Gospel Mission

Gospel Mission

For over 75 years, the Gospel Mission has been working to meet the needs of the homeless in the Siouxland region as a Christian, non-denominational, non-profit agency. The Gospel Mission focuses on meeting the immediate needs of the community by feeding the hungry, clothing the poor, sheltering the homeless, and leading them to Christ.

The Gospel Mission does more than just feed and shelter the homeless. The thrift store provides very affordable merchandise for sale and provides merchandise at no cost for those in need. The food pantry helps those in need with food items. Their wide array of ministry programs teach life-skills, financial management, job skill acquisition, time management, and work ethics, but most importantly the need for a relationship with Jesus as Lord and Savior.

Sunnybrook partners with the Gospel Mission by providing service opportunities for members of small groups and student ministries, as well as hosting donation programs throughout the year.

Liberty Elementary

Liberty Elementary

The Sioux City Community School District exists to educate students to believe in their talents and skills to achieve academic excellence, and succeed in reaching their potential.  Liberty Elementary is one of the biggest elementary schools in the district and one of the few participating in the 100% free and reduced programs.

Sunnybrook has partnered with Liberty Elementary because we have seen specific needs for this elementary school, the families, and surrounding community.  Sunnybrook has been greatly blessed to be a partner with Liberty Elementary for the past three years through providing supportive programs and special events such as Operation Backpack, Trunk or Treat, and the Carnival. It is our goal to form personal relationships with these students and families so that we can show them Christ’s love.

Miracle League

Miracle League

The Miracle League of Sioux City Baseball Field and Inclusive Playground will provide new opportunities to people with disabilities, as well as give access to a fun and safe playground for all children in the Siouxland area. The goal is to bring smiles to the faces of children with disabilities and the families of these children and create integrated settings for children with disabilities and the non-disabled to play together on the baseball field and playground.

The Miracle League of Sioux City gives every child the opportunity to play baseball. The design considers all physical, mental, emotional, and social needs of children with disabilities. This field and playground removes all barriers for children with disabilities, and will offer a place for various school districts, Special Olympics, able-bodied children and adults alike to play ball.

Sunnybrook partnered with the Miracle League in 2014 to help with fundraising for construction and playground materials. The Miracle League plans to open August 2015 for a fall baseball season. We plan to provide volunteers and different service opportunities to help meet the goal of Miracle League.

Welcome Home

Welcome Home

The Welcome Home Project combines transitional housing and outreach services to get homeless families in Siouxland off the streets as soon as possible. Welcome Home’s mission is to give those families a safe, furnished place to live, clothing and food if need; but importantly it is also to provide them, among other services, a chance to work one-on-one with a family development specialist working toward self-sufficiency.
Welcome Home is the only shelter program in the area that houses teenage boys with their families. The overall goal is for identified and qualified families to have a place to sleep that evening. Then, as they work with a family specialist, they are provided with not just a place to live but also confidentiality, in home visits, goal setting and encouragement, resource information, and referrals.
Sunnybrook began partnering with Welcome Home by furnishing an apartment. We now support them each year with a variety of volunteer efforts and helping with their annual ‘Attack of the Dogdeball Tournament.'

One-Time Events:

Sunnybrook Café (June) – Every Sunday morning in the month of June Sunnybrook Café comes to life and a delicious breakfast is served in order to raise funds for our Haiti missions. It is a “donations only” event, and breakfast includes pancakes, sausage, muffins, and made-to-order omelets. These Sunday morning meals provide volunteers the perfect opportunity to engage with Sunnybrook “On Mission” both locally and internationally.
Short-Term Events:

Operation Christmas Child (November) – Operation Christmas Child is ministry project that Sunnybrook participates in annually through Samaritan’s Purse. The goal of O.C.C. is to provide Christmas boxes, palpable expressions of Christ’s love, to children around the world. It is as simple as picking up a shoe box, selecting a specific age group(2-4, 5-9, 10-14) and gender, filling the box with simple gifts (school supplies, toys, hygiene items, notes of encouragement), and dropping it off at Sunnybrook’s collection area. This is the perfect holiday project for students, adults, families, and small groups. And, believe us, these small boxes change lives!
