Is God Fake News? Day 11

Scripture: Psalm 139:13-16 For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful,  I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.

Devotional: Have you ever had the opportunity to personally observe a baby being delivered from its’ mother’s womb?  It is a beautiful, holy moment that often leaves one awestruck. There is something so sacred about new life coming forth into the world.

When you consider the process of re-creation, that fruitful purpose that God established from the beginning, it’s hard to imagine anyone believing that this is accidental.  There is so much beautiful, intricate detail in the physiology of the re-creation process, from conception to birth.

But it’s more than just biology.  This passage reveals God’s magnificent, purposeful work in the life of every human.  Every day is ordained for each one of us and written in God’s book before one has even come to be!  We are fearfully, wonderfully and purposefully made.

Reflect:

  • How does knowing that God has ordained and written in His book each of your days impact the way you view your life?
  • Do you feel connected to God’s purpose for your life? Why or why not?
  • If you struggle with understanding God’s purpose for you, consider reading Rick Warren’s The Purpose Driven Life. http://purposedriven.com/books/pdlbook/

Is God Fake News? Day 10

Scripture: Psalm 136:1-9 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever. Give thanks to the God of gods. His love endures forever. Give thanks to the Lord of lords: His love endures forever. to him who alone does great wonders, His love endures forever. who by his understanding made the heavens,
His love endures forever who spread out the earth upon the waters, His love endures forever. who made the great lights—His love endures forever. the sun to govern the day, His love endures forever. the moon and stars to govern the night; His love endures forever.

Devotional: Genesis is not the only chapter of the Bible which speaks of the work of God in creation.  This psalm is a great recounting of God’s work in creating the heavens, the earth, the waters, the great lights, the sun, moon and stars.

After each stanza, we see “His love endures forever.”  Throughout Scripture we see this phrase written in a way that in every declaration of God's mighty act, there is a response. A response expressing deep gratitude to a God who never fails to fulfill His promise. God's love will never end.

 Reflect:

  • How can you give thanks today for God’s goodness in creating and sustaining the universe and for His love that will never end?
