Is God Fake News? Day 6

Scripture: John 1:18 No one has ever seen God. But the unique One, who is himself God, is near to the Father’s heart. He has revealed God to us.

Devotional: One of the most compelling arguments that God exists is found in Jesus Christ.  There is absolutely no dispute that Jesus Christ lived and walked upon this earth. The evidence of His existence is undeniable.  And as we shall see in the weeks to come, His claims were radical and absurd.  He either is who He says He is (the Son of God) or He was a lunatic or liar.

His existence alone reveals to us that God is. When we know Jesus, we know God.  When we see Jesus, we see God.  Jesus reveals God to us.

People can debate all day long about philosophical arguments.  But at the end of the day, Jesus silences all arguments.  His miraculous birth, His miracles, His death and His resurrection all point to a God who not only exists, but who loves us beyond measure. And He pursues us with that love relentlessly.

Reflect:

Take time now to give thanks to God for His indescribable gift – His Son Jesus Christ- God’s greatest revelation of Himself to you.

Is God Fake News? Day 5

Scripture: Romans 2:14-15 Even Gentiles, who do not have God’s written law, show that they know his law when they instinctively obey it, even without having heard it.  They demonstrate that God’s law is written in their hearts, for their own conscience and thoughts either accuse them or tell them they are doing right.

Devotional: The conscience of man is another of the arguments for the existence of God.  That is, there is a moral code that is amazingly similar across all cultures, both civilized and uncivilized.  For example, murder and stealing are considered wrong in most every society.

Our sense of right and wrong, something we innately know, comes from our being created in the image of God.  Simply put, God has put a piece of His character in our conscience.

But our consciences can be sensitive or can be hardened by our experiences and choices.  Matthew 13:15 says, “For the hearts of these people are hardened, and their ears cannot hear, and they have closed their eyes— so their eyes cannot see, and their ears cannot hear, and their hearts cannot understand, and they cannot turn to me and let me heal them.”

Simply put, when we allow our hearts to be hardened, we become blind and deaf to the magnificence of God and His creation.  We lose our understanding and we turn away from God.

Reflect:

  • In what ways is your heart sensitive to the ways of God?
  • In what ways is your heart hardened?
  • Proverbs 4:23 says, “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.” What are you doing to guard your heart and conscience?
