Scripture: Acts 1:8  But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

Devotional: When you think about being a bold witness for the cause of Christ, have you ever wondered how and to whom you are called to witness? This passage answers those questions.

How are you called?  By the power of the Holy Spirit.  It’s not by might, not by your own power, but by His Spirit that you are able to share the life-giving message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

To whom are you called?  Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and the ends of the earth were the geographical areas that Jesus mentioned as He commissioned His disciples after His resurrection.  But these also apply to all followers of Christ.  Jerusalem can represent where you live – your neighborhood, your family, your friends.  Judea might be the extended area in which you travel or commute.  Samaria would include those who are different from you, with whom you would not ordinarily associate.  And the ends of the earth includes ways you are investing in bringing the Gospel to unreached people groups – which may even include people in your community.

  • How often do you pray for the Holy Spirit to fill and guide you to witness to others? Are you willing to commit to that prayer for the next 7 days?
  • Think about the areas that the “regions” mentioned by Jesus might represent for you. Ask God to show you how you can be more bold in each of these areas.

Scripture: Acts 4:12-13 There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved. The members of the council were amazed when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, for they could see that they were ordinary men with no special training in the Scriptures. They also recognized them as men who had been with Jesus.

Devotional: If you’ve ever felt intimidated to witness to others because you don’t feel you know Scripture well enough, these verses should encourage you.   Peter and John were just ordinary men without any special training in the Scriptures.  But what set them apart is that they had been with Jesus.

The more time you spend with Jesus, the more you will be able to know and experience Him and the more you will want to share that with others.  Making space in your daily life to pray and to read His Word to you will enable you to fulfill His purpose for your life.

Just as Jesus had to withdraw to a quiet place and spend time with the Father, so you must withdraw from all the distractions of your life in order to connect with your Jesus.

  • Kudos to you for reading these devos. It’s a great beginning to giving time and space to Jesus.  Take some time now to connect with Him.
