I'm In Day 9

Scripture: Isaiah 41:9 I took you from the ends of the earth;  from its farthest corners I called you. I said, ‘You are my servant’; I have chosen you and have not rejected you.

Devotional: In today’s passage we read of God’s calling on the life of Isaiah.  But these words can also help you to understand God’s call on your life as well.

God is purposeful in His creation of you and the depths to which He will go to, not only make Himself known to you, but to help you understand the incredible value He has placed on your life.  You are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139), and every day ordained for you God has written in His book, before even one came to be!

You are chosen and accepted by the God of all creation.  You are invaluable.  Not only does He regard you with great affection, but He also has knit you together with specific qualities and gifts to be lived out for His glory.

Reflect:

  • Have you ever experienced being the last person chosen for a team? How did you feel?
  • How does knowing you’ve been chosen and accepted by God contribute to your understanding of your real value?

I'm In Day 8

Scripture: Matthew 6:26  Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are?

Devotional:  Do you ever struggle with your value?  Purpose?  Worth?   It’s a common human struggle.  This week you’re invited to come to understand more fully that you are indeed invaluable.

One contributing factor to feeling invaluable or questioning one’s worth is the narrative that many have adopted:  you must earn your worth.  But today’s passage shows that you are valuable, not by what you do, but by whom you are valued.

The birds do nothing to earn God’s favor.  They simply go about their business each day, doing what birds do, just being birds.  God takes care of them; He provides for them.  And the same can be said of you.

You are far more valuable to God than the birds.  He created you, and He is the One who gives you purpose and worth.

It’s not what you do, it’s who you are.  And to God, you’re invaluable!

Reflect:

  • Do you ever find yourself living a narrative that you must earn your way to being valuable? How does today’s passage help change that narrative?
