Flipside Day 16

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.  Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air.  No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.

Devotional: After reading this passage, don’t you feel like you’ve just come out of a team huddle? It’s a great little pep talk for the follower of Christ…run your race to win!

It’s also a great reminder that the road to victory is paved with blood, sweat and tears.  It’s a result of strict training, intentionally making a slave of your body and focusing on the eternal prize.  As a follower of Jesus Christ, that prize is the eternal reward that comes from living your life for the cause of Christ and seeing others coming into His Kingdom as a result of your witness.  As you live for the display of His glory, freely sharing the gift of salvation that you’ve  received, the ripples of your life’s message will extend beyond what you can imagine.

And when you cross that finish line, pouring it all out until the end, you will hear those highly anticipated words: “Well done good and faithful servant”(Matthew 25:21).  And it will be more than worth it.

  • In what ways are you disciplining yourself for the spiritual race God has called you to run?
  • Identify two disciplines you can initiate in order to run your race to win.
