Lean on Me Day 1
Scripture: Ecclesiastes 4:8 There was a man all alone; he had neither son nor brother. There was no end to his toil, yet his eyes were not content with his wealth. “For whom am I toiling,” he asked, “and why am I depriving myself of enjoyment? This too is meaningless— a miserable business!’
Devotional: Better together.
That’s the nutshell of this week’s devotions. In Genesis 2:18, God says that it’s not good for man to be alone. And the writer of Ecclesiastes summarizes the end game of aloneness: it’s meaningless and miserable.
We’ll see in the coming days that there is great purpose and benefit from authentic biblical community. And as we do, begin to reflect on your own life and experience. Are you one who has a solid group of godly people that you can “do life” with? Or do you tend toward self-sufficiency and isolation? Do you have people with whom you can share life’s highs and lows, or do you keep to yourself?
These are important questions as we will see in the days to come; not only for our own well-being, but for God’s great mission to be carried out in this world.
- Up to this point in your life, would you say your life has been more characterized by aloneness or togetherness? Why?
