Love & Relationships Day 12
Scripture: Proverbs 18:13 To answer before listening—that is folly and shame.
Devotional: Today’s devotion addresses something many of us can begin to struggle with in our married lives; and that is to pay attention to our spouse. Isn’t it ironic how we once may have hung on every word that our spouse spoke, and yet, we can begin to neglect listening to them as time goes on?
Whether it’s in the midst of a conflict, or just at the end of the day when you’re tired and worn out from work, it’s easy to get into a pattern of neglect or lack of listening. But as today’s Scripture says, that is folly and shame.
It may take an extra effort on your part, but be intentional about listening – really listening – to your spouse. Pay attention to what they are saying and feeling. Don’t’ be so focused on yourself and what you want to say that you don’t listen first. It’s a certain way to demonstrate laying down your life for your spouse and putting their needs before your own.
- How do you rate your listening skills as it pertains to your spouse?
- How might you be even more intentional in this area?
