Warrior Day 6
Scripture: Joel 2:6-8, 10-11 At the sight of them, nations are in anguish; every face turns pale. They charge like warriors; they scale walls like soldiers. They all march in line, not swerving from their course. They do not jostle each other; each marches straight ahead. They plunge through defenses without breaking ranks…Before them the earth shakes, the heavens tremble, the sun and moon are darkened, and the stars no longer shine. The Lord thunders at the head of his army; his forces are beyond number, and mighty is the army that obeys his command
Devotional: This prophecy in the book of Joel describes the Lord’s army. If you have ever doubted the almighty power of the warriors of God, these words should give you an accurate vision of what it means to be part of God’s great and terrifying army.
THIS is the army to which you are called to serve mighty warrior. And what makes them mighty? It’s found in verse 11: “mighty is the army that obeys his command.”
If you know anything about serving in the military, you know that one of the first things that happens to a new recruit is they are broken. They are broken down to be built back up, and built back up to trust their commanding officer. The chain of command is everything in the military, and obedience is the foundation. It’s what gives an army its strength.
And so it is in the army of God. You gain strength as a warrior by obeying God’s commands. We speak much of love and grace, but we also must be compelled by that love and grace to absolute obedience.
- What role does obedience to God’s commands play in your life? How might you live in greater obedience to Him?
