What Hurts the Heart of Jesus? Day 11
Scripture: 2 Samuel 24:24 But the king replied to Araunah, “No, I insist on paying you for it. I will not sacrifice to the Lord my God burnt offerings that cost me nothing.” So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen and paid fifty shekels of silver for them.
Devotional: King David is known as a man after God’s own heart. This passage demonstrates just one of the reasons why: David refused to offer to God something that cost Him nothing. He understood what a sacrifice of praise truly means. There’s something so powerful about giving when it hurts. And it’s a bit of a mystery, but when you really think about it, that’s because it’s rooted in love.
When you love someone deeply, you want to give them something costly, something expensive, something with deep meaning. And that is what is at the heart of our authentic worship. Love.
Love that costs something.
- Reflect upon your own acts of worship to God. How do you show your love to Him?
