Scripture: Mark 9:24 “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”
Devotional: As we’ve considered the tests for a true believer this week looking at the life of Abraham, it’s possible you have not done quite as well as you would hope on the “tests” we’ve examined. Don’t lose heart.
One of the most encouraging stories in Scripture is found in Mark 9. A father had brought his demon-possessed son to Jesus for healing. His son had suffered for many years and the father simply asked Jesus: “But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.”
Jesus replied: “If you can? Everything is possible for one who believes.”
The father’s response? “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” And Jesus healed his son.
These are words you and I can continually offer up – “Lord help me with my unbelief.” None of us have perfect faith. We all struggle with doubt and challenges to our belief. But God has shown us in His Word that He meets us right where we are in the midst of our struggle.
