Scripture: Ephesians 5:3 “But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity…”
Devotional: Most people who find themselves caught up in some type of sexual sin never set out to become entangled in it. In fact, most would say they never thought in a million years they would:
- have an affair (emotional or sexual)
- become addicted to porn, or
- leave their spouse for someone else
So how does this happen, and how can you keep from becoming a statistic? Today’s passage speaks clearly: not a hint. Not a hint of sexual immorality or impurity – that would include coarse joking, putting yourself in situations where you are alone with someone of the opposite sex, watching sexually explicit content, flirting online…the list could go on and on. Not a hint.
Perhaps that sounds a bit prudish. But it’s the best guardrail you can put in place in your life to keep yourself from plummeting over the edge when it comes to your marriage.
