Scripture: 1 Corinthians 10:12-13 “So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall! No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”
Devotional: It’s likely you’ve heard the proverbial “pride comes before the fall.” The apostle Paul seems to be reiterating that to the church in Corinth as he encourages them to withstand temptations in their life.
In fact, according to Paul, it’s often the very time that we think we are strong, that temptation has its greatest power over us. We’re not on our guard and we can quickly succumb to the schemes of our enemy.
The good news is that God always provides a way for us to resist temptation. We need only to cooperate with Him and heed His wisdom, in order to protect ourselves. James 4:7 says, “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
