Day 27 Love & Marriage

Scripture: Philippians 4:8 “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”

Devotional: When it comes to purity in your marriage, how you choose to think about your spouse can be key to guarding your relationship. Every marriage has a gap between expectations and reality; how do you tend to fill that gap?

Speaking to the church in Philippi, the apostle Paul encourages brothers and sisters in Christ to choose to think pure thoughts. It stands to reason that your thoughts become your words; your words become your actions; your actions become your habits; your habits become your character; and your character shapes your destiny. 

When you choose to think about those things that are lovely and admirable, it shapes the way you view your spouse and your marriage.

Certainly, there are times you feel frustrated with your spouse, but choosing to take every thought captive to the obedience of Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 10:5), and turning that thought into a positive one, is a powerful tool for a successful marriage.

  • Examine your thoughts lately about your spouse and marriage. How might you choose to think more praiseworthy thoughts?
