Day 28 Eyewitness to Christmas

December 30, 2023

Scripture: Luke 2:27-32 When the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the custom of the Law required, Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying:

“Sovereign Lord, as you have promised,

you may now dismiss your servant in peace.

For my eyes have seen your salvation,

which you have prepared in the sight of all nations;

a light for revelation to the Gentiles,

and the glory of your people Israel.”

Devotional: After Jesus was born, Mary and Joseph took Him to the temple to fulfill the custom of the Law. There, His deity was affirmed as Simeon prophesied and attested to the salvation Jesus would bring. Not only for Israel, but for the Gentiles; that is, for all.

As we close out our week considering God’s perspective on Jesus’ birth, we must not miss the most significant fact that God sent Jesus to bring salvation to a lost world. It has been His plan from the beginning. In His sovereignty, He knew we would need rescue, and He would be the very One to provide it.

Reflect:

  • Have you received God’s gift of salvation that has come through Christ? If not, consider surrendering your life to Him today. Need help? Head here:
