Day 6 What God Can Do Through Ordinary You

April 12, 2024

Scripture(s): Hebrews 11:27  By faith he [Moses] left Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger; he persevered because he saw him who is invisible.

Psalm 56:11 …in God I trust and am not afraid. What can man do to me?

Luke 12:4-5 “I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more. But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after your body has been killed, has authority to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him.”

Devotional: Do you tend to be a people pleaser? Or do you find yourself considering what others might think when making your decisions?

Certainly, our culture today has made us each more sensitive to image. “Cancel culture” causes many to fear the repercussions of even the slightest of missteps, fearing withdrawal of status or esteem as a result of doing something socially unacceptable. Ridiculously so. Sometimes it feels as though we’re walking through a minefield when it comes to communicating or acting publicly.

But Moses’ life exemplifies the kind of freedom that can come from focusing only on God’s perspective. You may be canceled, injured, or even killed by a mere man. But living in fear of those things leads to a miserable and unproductive life.  Moses’ faith in God enabled him to accomplish what God called him to do without fear of even the most powerful earthly ruler.

As the Psalmist says, “In God I trust and am not afraid.” May that be true of you as well.

Reflect:

  • What or who most tends to cause you trepidation or fear?
  • How might placing your trust in God in those scenarios help you to live more freely?
