Day 5 The Church

January 11, 2024

Scripture: Acts 2:42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.

Devotional:  We talked in Sunday’s message about the devotion of the apostles as the early church was launched, and of the significance of our devotion as followers of Jesus. In fact, the word translated “devoted” in Acts 2 is the Greek word “proskartereo”, meaning to live in a constant state of relentless pursuit. It's a persistent, ongoing, obstinate devotion. That's the state the disciples were in to Jesus, and the things of Jesus.

And we must be no less.

What does it look like to relentlessly pursue Jesus?  Some spiritual practices that mark that pursuit include:

  • Studying the Scriptures
  • Serving in the church/community
  • Engaging in a small group community
  • Practicing generosity through tithing
  • Praying daily

Take some time to assess your own level of relentless pursuit of Jesus and consider how you might devote yourself more fully.

Reflect:

  • In what spiritual practices do you engage most consistently? In which practices might you seek to be more consistent?
