We Are Sunnybrook Day 11
Scripture: Galatians 5:13 You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.
Devotional: It’s a beautiful thing to experience the freedom that Christ brings. Freedom from condemnation, freedom from our past, freedom to experience grace, mercy and forgiveness. But, according to this passage, it’s important for each of us to be aware of how the exercise of our freedom impacts others.
In the body of Christ, as we connect with one another in authentic community, we are also called to humble ourselves in service to one another. In love, we are to avoid gratifying our flesh- even though we may have the freedom to do so- for the sake of our brothers and sisters.
There can be a bit of a fine line here, for we certainly do not want to live in a legalistic way. But we do want to be sensitive to the weaknesses of others, avoiding being a stumbling block in the name of exercising our freedom.
- In what areas can you see the opportunity to humbly serve one another in love, foregoing your own freedoms in the process?
