What Hurts the Heart of Jesus? Day 13
Scripture: Psalm 96:7-9 Ascribe to the Lord, all you families of nations, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; bring an offering and come into his courts. Worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness; tremble before him, all the earth.
Devotional: Ascribe means to attribute something to. When you ascribe to the Lord glory and strength, you are acknowledging His power and His sovereignty in this world.
This psalm reminds us to continually give God the glory and honor that He is due. Not only is that something that is done in His courts, meaning the designated place for worship, which for us would be the church, but it is also to be done in all areas of our life. In these days of not having the opportunity to gather collectively in the church, it’s more important than ever to carry out our worship in our everyday lives as we acknowledge His holiness and splendor.
You are doing that now as you are taking time for this devotional. You’re reading His Word and pausing to reflect upon what He might be speaking to you. You can also do so through listening to or singing songs of worship, praising Him for who He is. You can do so by praying, not only for your needs, but interceding for others. You can worship Him through serving others, especially in this time of crisis when so many people are filled with fear and anxiety.
However you do it, start each day with ascribing to Him the glory due Him.
- Use this psalm to praise Him today:
Praise the Lord, my soul;
all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
Praise the Lord, my soul,
and forget not all his benefits—
who forgives all your sins
and heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion,
who satisfies your desires with good things
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. Psalm 103:1-5
