What Hurts the Heart of Jesus? Day 6
Scripture: 1 John 2:15 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them.
Devotional: We learned in Monday’s devotional that “the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things,” (Mark 4:19) can come and choke out God’s Word and His work in our lives.
Today’s passage gets a little more specific: If you love the world or anything in the world, the Father’s love is not in you. When that gets choked out, it gets completely pushed out of your life and you lose your connection with God. And all sorts of bad stuff will ensue.
You cannot be a true follower of Jesus Christ and continue to pursue the world and its pleasures. The two do not coexist. One will cancel out the other. As Matthew 6:24 says, “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”
God wants you. All of you. And He doesn’t settle for less.
- Have you been trying to both love God and love the world and its pleasures? If so, how’s that working for you?
